Jarv Dee: A Profile on One of Seattle’s Rising Names in Hip Hop

Jarv Dee, the rising Hip Hop artist out of Seattle, Washington first discovered his talent for rapping back in 2000. After recording himself first, he then recorded with tracks with his friends in their own home studios. This inspired Jarv to invest in his own equipment, starting with a mic, Mbox and a laptop to experiment with his newly found passion. After several years of honing his lyrical talent, Jarv decided to pursue music as his chosen profession in 2008.

Jarv has incorporated various life experiences which broadened his perspective into how he created his unique sound. He explained, “Although people are often talking about similar topics, it is how we present our thoughts that stand out. For me, running the streets, being a part of the dance world and other things helped me figure out how I approach my lyric writing and music making. How I present myself to my audience is what makes me stand out.”

Jarv Dee’s cutting edge style is not only shared in his videos but with the energy that he brings to the stage with each performance. He is constantly incorporating his take on current affairs, his perspective on religion and even his everyday relationships into his music to be as relatable to his fans as possible, through his lyrics. Jarv states, “My life experiences are always my inspiration and I don’t think that will change. When I wrote ‘I Just Wanna’ I was going through a lot of personal issues. I wasn’t making a lot of money at the time through side jobs and what money I did bring in, went straight to bills and taxes. The opening line for that record was ‘Just because I get money doesn’t mean I got money…’ and I believe that resonates to me and my fans still today.”

Jarv to this day still records a majority of his music out of his home studio in Seattle, Washington not only for convenience, although he appreciates the ability to be able to record something the moment that it comes to him. His versatility is one of the key factors that sets him apart from other music artists in his genre. Having recently been signed to Jay Park’s H1GHR MUSIC label based in Seoul, Korea, Jarv has had the opportunity to collaborate with many other complementary artists. “I feel like collaborating with other artists is good because it allows you to sharpen your skills and forces you to step out of your comfort zone,” he said.

Jarv Dee has had a loyal fan base across the country for many years, but now being signed to H1GHR MUSIC’s international label, he is able to reach new audiences around the world. “My fans are always very supportive and I show them gratitude. I love hearing their reactions to my music. Just hearing someone say, ‘Your song got me through some stuff…’ It’s just a feeling that you can’t quite explain!”
